New CpE Advisor Chip Johnson: An Adventurous Spirit

Newly minted CpE Advisor Chip Johnson is no stranger to the rigors of a top-ranked academic institution—he once stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. With over 13 years of student advising experience and a passion for top academic excellence, Mr. Johnson is breathing new life into the Computer Engineering program at the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering as the newest Senior CpE Academic Advisor.

Mr. Johnson hails from the Great State of Ohio and attended one of their top schools, Heidelberg University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in Communication and Theatre Arts. During his time at ‘the Berg,’ he began honing his advising skills by volunteering as a peer advisor. After graduation, Mr. Johnson worked at several institutions of higher learning, in a variety of roles. He was involved in teaching soft skills and technology classes as well as working to help students during the admissions process. He then earned his master’s degree from the University of Florida’s College of Education. Since then, the Ohio State University, Seminole State College of Florida and Santa Fe College are just a few of the institutions for which he has worked.

When asked about working for the University of Florida he responded with “It’s great to be a Florida Gator, I said it’s great to be a Florida Gator.”

While he is deep in the midst of his first Fall semester here at ECE, please welcome our new Computer Engineering Advisor, Mr. G. Chip Johnson. He can be reached at chip@ece.ufl.edu.
