ECE Remembers Bill Wagner

Bill Wagner (R) receives award in 2009 from then-Interim Chair John Harris and Associate Dean (and former Chair) Mark Law

Beloved ECE engineer and teaching faculty Bill Wagner passed away on June 26. Bill taught in the teaching lab from 1985 to 2002. Literally thousands of ECE students are grateful to Bill for the help and support he provided during ECE course labs and especially during their Senior Design Projects. Bill provided a great deal of additional support for ECE faculty as well. He is remembered for his dependability and willingness to help. Professor Herman Lam remembered:

“What I remember most about Bill is that I depended on him heavily during my early days of trying to put together the labs for the digital courses (EEL 3701, 4712, and 4744). Not all the labs were integrated with the classes at that time. I certainly did not have the experience (in terms of lab equipment, etc.) to do so without him. During his tenure in the department, the operation of the labs of my classes was never a concern for me.”

Even after retiring in 2002, Bill kept in touch with the department. Current engineer and design lab manager Mike Stapleton lunched with Bill just a few weeks before his passing. The memorial service was held Saturday, July 6, 2019 at at the Church of the Mediator in Micanopy, FL. His full obituary is available here.
