Jun Kyun Choi is a professor of electronics engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
Future data technologies may change the existing value chain of ICT world. In this talk, the existing digital data format and standards for the non-ICT world (smart city, transport, energy, health, logistics, etc.) as well as for ICT world (telecommunication, broadcast, and Internet) are reviewed. Toward future data eco-society, the basic understanding of how to extract information and knowledge from data are discussed. Also, key technical issues of data models are investigated by being aware of some paradox between open data and data security. Finally, key requirements, especially for future data model for smart city and IoT applications, to enable efficient data sharing and aggregation are identified. The standardization strategies for open data platform are proposed.
Prof. Jun Kyun Choi received the B.Sc. (Eng.) from Seoul National University in electronics engineering, Seoul, Korea in 1982, and M.Sc (Eng.) and Ph.D degree in 1985 and 1988, respectively, in electronics engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). From June 1986 through December 1997, he was with the Electronics and Telecommunication Research Institute (ETRI). In 1998, he moved to the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) as Professor. From August 2011 to 2014, he served as Director at the IT Convergence Center under the KAIST Institute. He is an active member of the ITU-T Study Group 13 and served as the Head of the Korean Delegation from 1993 to 2010, and served as the working group chairman of the IPTV Focus Group from 2006 to 2007.
